Difference Between OPC and PPC Cement

PPC (Portland Pozzolana Cement) is an OPC (Ordinary Portland Cement) form. These two forms of cement vary from each other in material, power, heat generation, percentage of multiple components, consistency, levels, price, eco-friendly nature, use, setting period, healing time, etc. Below are the main differences between OPC and PPC.

Sources Shallow FoundationDeep Foundation
Definition/ ComponentsTo prepare OPC, a mixture of calcareous and other raw materials such as argillaceous, calcareous, gypsum is prepared and then grinded.PPC is made with the addition of pozzolanic goods to OPC. OPC clinker, gypsum and pozzolanic products (15~35 percent) are the main components, which include calcined earth, volcanic ash, fly ash and silica fumes.
StrengthThe original power is higher than that of PPC.Over a longer period of time, PPC has greater strength than OPC
Heat of hydrationIn the hydration reaction, it produces more energy than PPC, rendering it less ideal for mass casting. It has a slow process of hydration and therefore produces less energy than OPC.
Durability More resilient when the climate becomes rough. In harsh heat, more resilient.
CostCostlier than PPC.Cheaper than OPC.
Environmental ImpactEmits CO2 during the process of production. It is manufacturing or organic waste which makes this environmentally friendly.
Application/ usesIt is suitable where, as described above, rapid construction is needed but not suitable for mass concreting due to heat issue. It is ideal for construction work of all sorts. For example, building casting by RCC, bridge mass concreting and even plastering and other non-structural works.
Setting TimeTop of PPC. The original setting time is 30 minutes and 280 minutes is the actual setting time. The shorter set-up time helps to build more efficiently. We placed PPC time lower than OPC. The initial setting time is 30 minutes and 600 minutes is the current setting time. The faster setup time helps to finish better.
FinenessOPC is 225 sq.m / kg finite. It's less than PPC. It therefore has greater permeability, resulting in lower longevity.OPC is 300 sq.m / kg finite. It's better than the OPC. It therefore has less permeability, leading to higher longevity.
Grades available33 Level, level 43 and class 53 OPC concrete. There is no defined PPC cement grade available.
WorkabilityLower than PPC.Higher than OPC.
Resistance against chemical attackIt has less immunity to alkalis, sulfates, chlorides, and so on.It is more immune to alkali, sulfates, chlorides, etc.
