Difference Between Screw and Bolt

In the manufacturing industry, screw and bolt are commonly employed. We are both made of metal. We are used as a fastener for the serious threads. There is a fundamental difference between these two fasteners, though.

Screw vs Bolt

There are several variations between the screw and bolt. The major discrepancies between the screw and the bolt are shown in the following table:

Sl.NoScrew Bolt
1The screw doesn't take a nut.
To one hand, Bolt takes a bolt.
2
Without any openings, a screw is inserted.
The placement of the bolt involves gaps.
3Thread materials are used with the bolt.
Holes are used for part assembly.
4

A screw is called a complete thread.
The title of Bolt is half cord.
5
Screw contains a helical-shaped thread.
Bolt has a spiral-shaped cord.
6Screw's shank is pointed.
Bolt has no shank reduced.
7There is no parallel section in a screw.
Bolt has a section parallel to it.
8Screw is less powerful.
Bolt is more powerful.
9Torque is applied on the head in a screw.
There is no tension added to the thread in a screw
10
Screwing involves flipping. That's why it's not sitting in the same place.
At a single position, the bolt is set.
11
Except for one head, a screw has no external thread.
At the bottom, Bolt has an external thread.
12Most of the time the screwdriver has to relax.
Bolt needs tightening wrenches and clamps.
13

A screw is less reliable.
Bolt is more reliable.
14
A screw is used by digging in to fasten material.

Bolt is designed to be inserted into assembled parts through holes.
15
The screw sizes available are small or medium. They don't have a big size.

The bolt's usable sizes are small or large. They don't offer medium size.
16There are some examples of screws-wood machine screw, self-drilling screw, mating screw, set screw, etc.

Some examples are elevator bolts, lag bolts, timber bolts, stud bolts, plow bolts, etc.
17
A screw is cross-connected non-uniformly.

Bolt has a cross section that is standardized.
