Precautions Required While Using Mortar Mix

Some precautions must be carefully taken to produce the best mortar with the available ingredients. In order to get the most out of the mortar mix, the following factors must be considered.

Precautions Required while Using Mortar Mix

Mortar should be blended in small quantities to allow for easy use before positioning the mortar. Never use the mortar that has already been installed. Among different types of mortar, the following are the maximum time limits:

  • When mortar requires as a component hydraulic lime (Class A lime), it must be used within four (04) hours of grinding.
  • It shall be used within twenty-four (24) hours of grinding if mortar contains surki or cinders an ingredient.
  • In the case of cement mortar, after adding water, the time limit is 90 minutes.
  • Usable bricks or stones should be washed very deeply in water for at least 12 hours for masonry construction work before they are used in mortar work. Before it sets, it will prevent moisture from absorbing from the mortar.
  • There should be no extra moisture in the mortar.
  • Freshwater should be used in the processing of mortar blends. Water oils, dirt, alkali, etc. should be available.
  • The use of seawater in mortar mixture should be avoided.
  • The joints should be well filled with mortar.
  • Mortar work should be kept wet for a week or two after casting. It will prevent mortar from rapidly drying, particularly in hot weather.
  • The project should be halted in frosty weather because frosty weather affects the cement environment.
